How to generate traffic ?

Great! You just created your website and now you’re just waiting for the traffic to start pouring in. You know that you can never have enough traffic and, after a few weeks of no traffic, you quickly realize that traffic is harder to come by than you originally thought.

You’re not alone. Once you decide to generate money on the Internet, you quickly realize that quality traffic is not only key but difficult to find. It’s a well known fact that traffic is the lifeblood of a website and that without traffic you might as well not even have a website. However, human nature being what it is, many still think, or at least hope, that when they start their first website the traffic will just miraculously appear.

Where are my Customers?

When doing business, customers do not just appear like manna from heaven. To get customers using your website requires work, hard work which will then engender traffic, and if you’re lucky, lots and lots of traffic.

Of course, there are many ways to get traffic to your web site. You can buy it, borrow it, or create it. But keep the following in mind:

* Not every method of traffic generation produces the same quality of visitors.

* The perceived quality of your site is directly related to the perceived integrity and quality of the source of your traffic.

Quality of traffic is the key, not just quantity. You need quality traffic, people who are actually looking for what you want to sell. You can get massive amounts of traffic using traffic generators, but is it valuable traffic. With traffic generators you view the websites of other people and receive credits. Those credits can then be used by you to have other people view your sites. But what type of traffic are you really getting. Just think about it for a minute. If you are viewing sites only to get people to look at yours, then won’t the people looking at yours be doing the same thing? If that is the case, they will never buy from you, just as you have absolutely no intention of buying from them. Yes, quantity is important, but it is better to have ten quality hits then a thousand of no value.

Traffic generation methods that work

Here are a few effective ways to start generating quality traffic to your site:

* Optimize for the search engines. Make sure that your site is rich in keywords. This is probably the most important thing you can do for your site. Most traffic comes from search engines, people looking for something in particular. You want it to be your site they see when the results page displays. For best results, you need to be in the top thirty sites displayed. Being in the top three is best, but of course, very difficult to achieve.

* Create a blog and update it frequently. The main value of a blog verses an ordinary webpage is that people expect it to be updated often and so they are more likely to return. In addition, the articles which are cataloged allow visitors to read not only what you said this week, but in all the weeks that your blog has been online. Make sure to submit your blog to blog rings. That will also improve your traffic.

* Create articles with strong keywords and submit them to the various article directories. When you submit an article, put your web address and blog address in your signature. If your articles are picked up by other websites, links to your site will begin to proliferate across the web which gives your site more credibility. The search engines love credibility. In addition, if readers find your articles of value they will begin to see you as an expert and want to visit your site or blog to get more information from you.

* Use social networking websites such as Facebook, Squidoo and MySpace. There are millions of users in these social networks and each member has their own sub-network of friends that relate and listen to them.

* Exchange links with other quality websites. Find sites that are relevant to yours and request that they exchange links. (Don’t use link farms though. The search engines don’t like them. They may penalize your site for using them.)

* Create a newsletter that you can use to communicate with your customers. Don’t spam! Everyone hates spam so you will do more harm than good if you spam your potential customers. Send only quality information and only to people who have opted to receive it.

* Create viral strategies using sites such as YouTube. We live in a time where people prefer to view rather than read. Take advantage of that. Create videos that are viral. You want people to tell their friends and family about the video so that they too will view it. Don’t forget to put a link to your website in the video.

Final Word

Try these methods and any others of value that you discover and you are sure to have a winning marketing strategy. Most important of all, do not give up. Constantly fine tune not only your campaign but also your site. Always watch to see what works for you and do more of that. Once you know what your customers like and want you are well on the way to success.
